Inclusive Practise in Writing

How can schools ensure that every child, including those with SEND and those facing disadvantage, can succeed as writers?

This course equips teachers and leaders with practical, evidence-informed approaches to create inclusive writing provision that reflects current Ofsted recommendations, the SEND white paper and the renewed focus on adaptive teaching within The Writing Framework.

Course aims:

  • Develop understanding of inclusive practice within the teaching of writing

  • Explore adaptive teaching approaches that enable all pupils to access and succeed in writing lessons

  • Consider practical strategies to support pupils with SEND and those facing disadvantage as writers

  • Strengthen approaches to identifying barriers to writing, monitoring progress and planning responsive next steps

  • Explore how scaffolding, modelling and classroom talk can support confidence and independence in writing

  • Consider the role of pupil voice, engagement and motivation in developing successful writers
