These three courses equip primary Early Career Teachers (ECTs) with the essential knowledge, skills and practical strategies to teach reading, writing and grammar effectively. It is firmly grounded in the EYFS Statutory Framework, The National Curriculum for English, The Reading Framework, The Writing Framework and current Ofsted expectations. Teachers will leave with clear, structured approaches that can be implemented immediately in daily classroom practice from EYFS and across Key Stages 1 and 2.
Course aims:
Develop a secure understanding of the interconnected nature of reading, writing and grammar and how they support one another
Build confidence in delivering systematic synthetic phonics, reading comprehension and fluency as the foundation for all literacy development
Strengthen knowledge of how to teach writing composition through the full writing process, with explicit modelling and high-quality mentor texts
Explore how to teach grammar and punctuation explicitly in context so that pupils apply it accurately and effectively in their own writing
Develop adaptive teaching strategies to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND, EAL and those experiencing disadvantage
Strengthen approaches to assessment, identifying barriers, tracking progress and planning responsive next steps in reading, writing and grammar
